The neighbors of Drake Bay finally have a bridge that connects them by ground to the Osa Peninsula, something they had been waiting for for years and that finally gives them more options to commercialize their products and promote tourism.
“This is a ground route that will finally allow entry to Drake Bay during any month of the year, both to residents of neighboring communities as well as commercial trucks and this will increase tourism in the region”, mentioned Alvaro Castro from the Drake Neighbor Association.
The 45-meter-long bridge will allow free transit of vehicles to Drake Bay representing an important economic activation of the area, as well as easier transportation of merchandise and the attention of emergencies.
“Rural infrastructure is key to development. Which is why we have set Territorial Competitiveness as an strategic point with the purpose of decreasing the gap between territories, through initiatives such as the generation of jobs, reduction of inequality, economic reactivation and the generation of opportunities for the more vulnerable population”, explained Harys Regidor, Executive President of the Rural Development Institute.
The bridge involved a total investment of 695 million colones ($1,194,948.25 USD) and it benefits some 1,500 people directly and 5,000 indirectly.
