Selling Travel trade magazine from the United Kingdom selected Costa Rica as the best wildlife and nature destination for 2019.

The award was received by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute Tuesday during the World Travel Market international tourism fair that was taking place in London, England.

According to the institute, Selling Travel readers include retail travel agents, home-based workers and reservation staff of tour operators throughout the United Kingdom.

“We did a reader survey this year that asked agents in which travel segments they were most interested. Wildlife and nature were among the first three segments, showing that the best destination for wildlife and nature award is one that is particularly important for the UK travel trade,” said Laura Gelder, editor of Selling Travel.

The Tourism Institute presented a stand this week at the World Travel Market.

According to the institute, the goal of the Costa Rica booth is “to be an oasis of tranquility in international tourist fairs where thousands of buyers and sellers meet to make future business.”

At the stand, the representatives of the institute offers coffee, cotton candy and slush to the visitors.

Also as the main attraction, the new stand includes a 4×4-meter room called the magic room with mirrors, foliage, native flowers of Costa Rica, LED lights and sounds that evoke and transport those who visit it to the rain forest, said the institute.

“With this new design, we show both the interaction in social networks by creating this infinite room, as well as the memorable experiences . . . ,” said María Amalia Revelo, minister of Tourism. “The stand is congruent with an international advertising campaign we announced in September, focused on inviting the search for balance, recharging energies and getting excited.”

According to the institute, being part of an international tourism fair helps to position the country as a destination in the American and European markets for increasing tourist arrivals.

According to data provided by the institute, based on information from the General Directorate of Migration, from January to September, tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom grew 4.2% compared to the same period of 2018.

In this period 59,134 British tourists arrived. England is the main European marketing in importance for tourism.

The stay of visitors to the United Kingdom is estimated at 14.6 nights, and the British tourist spends $121.8 per day.

British tourists mostly have a college education and half are young people under 35 years of age, the institute said.
