Caño Island Biological Reserve, 12 miles offshore from Drake Bay, is not only one of the best diving spots in Costa Rica, it is a world-class SCUBA experience!
At Caño Island, you will encounter both pelagic (open ocean) and Pacific reef fish. Many species are the same as found in the Galapagos Islands. You might see 2-meter long white tipped reef sharks, silky sharks, bull sharks and occasionally hammerhead sharks. It is not uncommon to see manta rays leaping from the water and hundreds of lesser devil rays regularly pass by. There are too many other fish to list here but many divers especially enjoy meeting the free-swimming moray eels, which are often 2-meters long.
This two-tank dive tour begins with an hour boat ride to Caño Island and includes dives in different hot spots areas around the island, including Bajo de Diablo. Each dive is about 45 minutes.
During whale season, you might dive to the songs of the Humpback Whales!
Between the first and the second dive, there is a stop at Caño Island to walk around and explore the island. After your second dive, the boat returns to the coast where you will have a picnic lunch at San Josecito Beach. After lunch, you return to Drake Bay.
